During transport damage or loss can occur to your shipment. In certain cases the carrier can be responsible. This all depends on condition of packages, condition of transport etc. The conditions are mentioned on the Bill of Lading in case of sea transport and on the Airwaybill in case of air transport. Also the general conditions of Seawings play a part in this.
Whether and how compensation can be received, is formalized in the conditions of the carriers concerned. Because transport is charged per kilo, compensation is also expressed in a maximum amount per kilo. On this page we give you an outline of the maximum liability with regards to the several modes of transport. Based on this overview, you may consider to take out transport insurance. We advise you to always do so in the case of sea freight and air freight.
